Incarnation Schools holds Annual 4th Grade Event
Posted by Randy Boadway on on 9th Jan 2022
Incarnation School in Centerville, Ohio, holds an event each fall as they learn about rocketry. There are 93 students in the 4th grade and they all build a Quest Astra III with help from the Wright Stuff Rocketeers. A week later they fly those birds on B6-4 motors. These students also share their experience with the younger grades as they come out to support the 4th graders. This is where they learn how to count down for each flight. They to will eventually reach the 4th grade where they will have the opportunity to build and fly their own rocket. The students also invited their parents to join them for the launch.
I try to get the student to think a lot about what is happening to the physics behind rocketry. This year I flew a Semroc Jupiter B on a C6 motor. After experiencing how high their classes Astra Rocket's flew on a B6-4 motor, I asked them how high my Jupiter B would fly on a motor that is twice as powerful. They had mixed answers, but the flight proved the correct answer.
My thanks to Mindy Craft for coordinating this event each year. She is truly an inspirational teacher who knows how to motivate her students to be their best.
