This 7th edition is dated 2004. Black and white photos (maybe from the 80s).
The text is a somewhat difficult read. If one does not have a strong math and science background, they'll likely not appreciate this book.
While the author states that he tries to make the material funny at times, he comes across condescendingly: "If anybody says the system is too complicated to learn, it's my guess that that person doesn't have enough grey matter to get safely involved in model rocketry in the first place." Maybe if the authors stopped criticizing people and learned how to break the subject matter down better, they wouldn't have to interject their opinions and pass judgment. I understand the material in the book, but I'm going to stop reading it because of that one statement.
There's better books on the subject. Make: Rockets (Down-to-Earth Rocket Science) is the other rocket book that I own. It's quite a bit better with explanations, colored pictures, and better formatting. For what you get, the Handbook of Model Rocketry is quite overpriced at $30.
